Sunday Liturgy

Ministers of the Eucharist

Lay people are commissioned as Ministers of the Eucharist for a fixed period to help the priests distribute Holy Communion at Mass and to the sick and housebound. Lay Ministers are required to attend a training course prior to commissioning. The priest will normally invite people to undertake this ministry.

Readers

Those who proclaim the Word of God in the liturgy form an important group in the parish. If you could like to read please speak to a Mass Representative.

Mass Representatives

All Sunday Masses have Co-ordinators who welcome parishioners, distribute the Newsletter, arrange for members of the congregation to take up the Offertory Gifts, supervise collections and ensure the church is left tidy after Mass. If you would like to become a Mass Representative then speak with one of those already involved at the Mass you attend.

Altar Servers

The role of Altar Servers is to help the priest in the celebration of Mass. Their duties require commitment, calmness and reverence. Boys and girls who have made their First Communion can become Servers. If you would like to help at Mass in this way, speak to the priest.

Children’s Liturgy Group – Sunday 9am Mass

During the 9am Mass children from the age of four are invited to leave the church to meet in the Parish Centre where they ‘break the Word’ together. This is followed by drawing, writing, singing or perhaps drama in smaller groups. They re-join the Mass during the Offertory. The Liturgy Group is also responsible for arranging the Good Friday service for children and the Children’s Mass on Christmas Eve.

Music Groups

Saturday 6.30pm Mass

Sunday 9.30am Mass
The group that leads the music and singing consists of musicians of all ages, playing a variety of instruments with a repertoire mainly in the ‘folk’ style. The main aim of the Group is to lead the singing – not to perform for the congregation - and this works well. For major feasts the group combines with the other parish musicians and the choir. They also play at weddings and join in events outside the parish.

Sunday 11.30am
The music is led by the organist and a small group of singers. It would be good to involve more members in this Choir.

Sunday 5pm
A guitarist leads the music at this Mass.
